I’m off to see my life flash before my eyes.
I got up before the sun this morning because I’m driving about an hour to pick up my pretend kidlet, MacKenzie. She and I have plans to conquer the beast that is known as Dollywood.
Or, shall it suddenly become miraculously sunny and hot, Dolly’s Splash Country.
Now, if you’ve never been to Dollywood before, you are truly missing out. Basically, it is somewhere between those carnivals you see in your mall parking lot once a year and Disney World. Okay, much closer to those parking lot carnivals.
However, AND I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM ABOUT TO ADMIT THIS, I love Dollywood with the passion of a hundred cups of Sunny Delight. Just like me, Dollywood embraces the fact that it is inherently country and doesn’t try to be something it isn’t.
Although each morning that I go into the Starlite office and take my place as “The Leader”, it could be said that I’m attempting to be something I’m not. But that’s beside the point here.
This won’t be our first time going to Dollywood together, MacKenzie and I. We’ve hit it up quite a few times, with the most memorable time being when we ran into my ex-ex-boyfriend. Who was, incidentally, standing there with a former Starlite leader. Meanwhile, I was standing there holding the hand of a child that may or may not have appeared to be fruit of my very loins. As he and I “caught up” (and the former Starlite leader and I avoided eye contact), I made sure to mention that MacKenzie wasn’t my kidlet.
All while she continued to say “Mama llama? Can we go on the teacups now?”
Talk about awkward.
MacKenzie’s been asking to go back to Dollywood since the last time we left their parking lot, so I knew The Time Had Come. It isn’t that I mind to take her there — after all, I’m a fan of Dolly’s ‘hood. It’s just that MacKenzie likes to ride the big roller coasters and I prefer the kiddie rides. Inevitably, we end up standing in front of a ride with her begging me to get on a ride that I’m sure I don’t have enough health insurance for while asking her why we can’t just ride the Merry-Go-Round again.
And again.
And, well, again.

I think when WE go to DollyWood you end up asking ME if we can just ride the Merry-Go-Round again! Although, I’d rather ride the MGR again than hear (while flying through the air on any adult ride) “OH MY GOSH ASHLEY! I’M GOING TO DIE!!! NO! I’M GOING TO THROW UP! NO! I’M GOING TO DIE!”. Actually, come to think of it, it’s pretty entertaining. Have I said too much???

Hehe… I hate the big roller coaster rides too. When I’m FORCED to ride one with my hubby… or certain other friends who shall remain nameless… I have found that if I NEVER STOP SCREAMING, then they’re actually kind of bearable. I can’t talk at the end of the day, but at least I’m not shaking like a leaf!
PS I still love the fact that she calls you Mama Llama - that is just too cute!

I have a fear of heights. And speed. No one has tried to get me on a roller coaster since that time I threw up in the middle of one. Word got around and I’m now left in peace, feet planted firmly on the ground. Not that I think you should throw up or anything. I hope you have a FABULOUS time no matter what ride Mackenzie talks you into getting on.

I love Dollywood and its country feel too! I am a thrill seeker and love rollercoasters. My mom kinda likes rollercoasters but she tried the Dizzy Disk and she started yelling a prayer and pinching her eyes together. It was hilarious. :))
