A little independence day of my own.
July 4th, 2008 by Amy BethUnlike most people who get excited about the holidays because it means they get an extra day off from work, I usually can’t wait to be back to the “normal.” When you’re kind of on your own, it isn’t that much fun.
I mean, spending the holiday with Imaginary Boyfriend would be great but he’s out of town visiting his family. And so, I’m on my own this 4th of July.
I had big plans for today: I would sleep in, fix breakfast for myself (maybe even attempt to cook toast since its a holiday and all!) and then head to the Starlite office for a lovely day of holiday work.
These plans came to a bit of a halt last night when I began throwing up. Don’t feel too bad for me — I watched the fireworks out the window from my bathroom floor.
I decided to head to bed early and sleep in today. And of course I made it all the way to 7:36 a.m.
I’m feeling 100% better, so I’m going to head over to the office and attack the piles of files that are piling up on my desk. Snuggles and Cuddles are going with me, of course — I promised them we’d stop by the fireworks store on the way home to pick up some sparklers.
HAPPY HOLIDAY, YA’LL!
P.S. - Wasn’t trying to come across as Sad Sally today — quite the opposite! I know my day of family grilling out, kids swimming in the pool, etc. will come one day.

Your day is coming
I will eat some mini-doughnuts and think of you my friend…it’s really what the 4th is all about…mini doughnuts.
Awww, you were sick?
Are you not around family? We seriously can’t let this happen again! I can’t stand the thought of someone being lonely or sad…
I live less an hour away from Lee. You can come with me and my family to the huge family get together. You should see the fireworks display we put off! It’s greatness.
…and I am being serious. If you are willing to drive up here, then you are more than welcome to come with us!
Enjoy each stage!
When your single, you long for family days. When your ‘Mom’ you long for quieter times.
Embrace and savour each moment of each stage. It all passes so quickly.
BTW, glad you’re feeling better. Throwing up just sucks! (And that can be a great time to be thankful there are no children in the house!)
I don’t know where you are in Tennessee and how far away you are from me but we are in the same state and I can’t stand the thought of you being alone on the holidays. If you ever feel the urge to meet I would love for you to hang out with my family or even meet somewhere halfway and we could shop!!! or eat!!!!! or whatever. Seriously.
I drove by the office today to see if you needed anything (see: Soup!), but you weren’t there and I didn’t have my phone.
Hope you’re feeling better!
So sorry about the stomach thing. In my book THAT was the saddest part of this post! Glad it was short lived!
I spend my holidays much like you. I got a good chunk of reading done for class (though I did it in style, at the pool). I am fortunate to have a church family to spend the holiday evening with, and went to a BBQ.
