Water. It’s what’s for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

By writing the following sentence, I am risking my very life at the hands of all you lovely mommy-bloggers but I am prepared to suffer your wrath at my admission:

I don’t drink water.

I don’t mean that I just don’t get enough water; I simply don’t drink it. Ever. Don’t believe me? How about if I told you that, over the past week, I had ONE glass of water in seven days?

Yep. You’re furious. I knew you would be.

The truth is that I don’t drink a lot of anything. I’m like a cactus or something… I just don’t drink. I can go a full meal without having anything to drink — and then turn around and do the same thing hours later when I have my next meal. In fact, as horrible as this admission will be, I often go days without having anything to drink at all.

Horrible. I know.

Before I could even really wake up this past Sunday morning, I instantly heard the Lord say “Hey, AB? Think you could do three things for me this week?”

I, of course, said no.

Just kidding. I said no and then I said “Just kidding” to Him. Unfortunately, I don’t think He found it that funny.

“I want you to do these three things for the next seven days: {thing one here}; {things two here} and drink at least 90 ounces of water a day.”

Now, here’s the thing: thing one and thing two aren’t that dramatic, but if I started writing about them, we’d be here all day. Just a couple of areas that need some refinement (and when I say “a couple of areas” I mean “a couple of areas out of approximately 256 in my life that need refinement”).

I, of course, answered in complete submission. Because I’m, like, the very definition of submission.

“Um, God? I think you might have messed your numbers up. Ninety is a little high.”

“Nope. Ninety.”

“Well, how about we start out slowly? Today… well, today I’ll have a glass of water!”

“No.”

“I’m going back to sleep and hope that this is just a bad dream.”

It wasn’t, of course, and so here I sit with my ginormous water bottle, just chugging down 32 ounces every few hours (I’m actually having 96 ounces a day compared to the 90 He put as the requirement). I was feeling pretty proud of my 96 ounces until a little research (thank you Twitter followers) unearthed some dreaded info: you’re actually supposed to take your body weight, divide it in half and then drink that many ounces of water.

I’m going back to bed.

Oh, there are so many articles about whether we need that much water or not. Who knows? The important part is you’re acting in obedience in a little thing. God has really been showing me the importance of that lately.

GO FOR IT!!! It’ll be hard at first when you gotta go to the little girl’s room all the time..or you could just wear Depends. :P But once, you get a few days under your belt, you shouldn’t have to use the little girl’s room as much. Just keeping it real!

AB, I’m not a water drinker either. I just don’t like the taste of it, it’s pretty boring. I try to drink as much as possible though, usually when I’m doing some sort of physical activity and my body is craving it.

I don’t drink enough water either. Maybe a glass every few days. I know, it’s horrible.

When I do drink water, I feel better & I drop a few lbs that first week…

Oh I do not mean to lecture BUT….(don’t you love when people start out sentences that way) Water is the best thing you can do for your body, your complexion, your overall health.

God knows what He’s talking about. :-)

Amy Beth. I don’t drink water either. It was hard on me white I was pregnant and attempting to nurse both of my girls. :) I just don’t like water. BLECH!

well if you must choke it down…throw in some lemon or lime juice…or a smidge of Sunny D…give it a little flavor…cold water helps burn more calories if that’s any consolation…

Hi Amy Beth. I’ve been following your blog for a couple weeks now and loved every post, but this one definitely convicted me! I am the same way. Pretty much camel-like! Because water is SO good for us as temples of God, I guess I should join in on all the fun. It is fun, right?!

I hate water with every fiber of my being but I do force myself to chug 80 ounces per day. (4 - 20 oz. bottles) The peeing is what gets on my nerves.

I’m going to take this as a challenge to make sure I’m drinking as much as I should. I tend to lean a little too much on the Dt. DP when I get stressed (or really anytime). I do drink a lot of water when I’m at home at night or when I’m at work, which is probably because the bathroom is convenient.

Hey AB! I’m cheering you on in your water chugging! Did God say that you couldn’t flavor it? I love water, but my MIL hates it, but her doc convinced her to drink more water and she uses the Crystal Light single servings….I know that they have one that’s call “sunrise (something)”, and it MIGHT have a hint of a taste of Sunny D….just thinking outside of the box, if you are allowed to go outside of the box.

Now I like myself a little water, especially when it’s in the form of ice that I can pour my diet coke onto.

You’re challenging me. I’m with you and will drink 1/2 my body weight in ounces…so that makes about 40 ounces. Oh, I kid.

We’re going to have the best complexions and kidneys ever!

Watermelon has a TON of water in it….hmmm, would that count as one of the 8 oz. cups?

Girl, I hear ya. Not a fan of the boring water fest either. BUT… I found the secret, and now I’m a water drinkin’ fool! I started buying the little boxes of Propel Fit Powder Water “beverage mix.” It comes in four flavors. Glass o’ water plus tiny packet of PFPWBM and voila! It’s a treat!! Now I’m getting my water in, and the sugar intake is really minimal. Check it out!

Whatever you do, don’t use those crystal lite packets. They are full of chemicals.

And, I’ve heard that lukwarm water is better for you. Cold hardens the oils in your arteries.

Apparently my arteries don’t care because I prefer ice cold.

A.B. I’m a cactus, too.

I don’t drink nearly as much as my fellow humans, but like you, I have had to force myself to do so.

I told you on Twitter that I only do 3 water bottles a day, and it seems to be working really well for me.

The great thing about water is that the more you drink it, the more you crave it. I swear, it works.

Oh..and my “drink more water” trick is mixing 1/4 fruit juice (100% juice) with water. Tastes mostly like juice, stretches the juice out because it’s expensive, and gets me to drink water!!

Um, I meant 1/4 juice with 3/4 water. As a sort of ratio.

Wow! I’m surprised you don’t get kidney stones. Some sort of fluid intake has to be necessary. I don’t believe we actually need the recommended 8 glasses a day because there is water in other foods, but I think our bodies need enough to function properly. Have you been feely alright?

I am not a water drinker either. From my personal experience, I feel amazingly different when I drink it. To make it a little more pleasant, I have found if I will add a dash of fruit juice it is amazingly better. I also like to do lime juice with one splenda.

Good luck!!

Water is important. Yes, it is found in our foods (which require that fluid just to digest), but actual water is needed to cleanse the body of impurities, help process nutrients (you can actually end up malnourished without water, no matter how much you eat), and promote production of body cells.

You’ll probably feel water-logged for the first few days, but after that, you will start to feel different as your body flushes out all the garbage we accumulate from pollution, chemicals and processed (junk) food.

Wow! I had no idea so many people shared my distaste for water!
I feel empowered! I’m not the only one!

I never liked the taste of water. Seriously. Or lack of taste/ flavor for that matter. (Solution to that problem at end of this long comment!)

However, I gave up soda about 4 years ago. Now I have about 6 sodas a year when I crave them… and that’s very rare.

But I still wasn’t drinking much water. I fill my nalgene bottle (new dilemma… now I have to find a new bottle!!) which is 16 ounces and it usually lasts me all day. Apparently I should be drinking 3 or 4 of them a day. And some days I do - when I CRAVE water. I just don’t crave it much.

Now, I don’t know how good this is for a person… but it does increase my water consumption. A few years ago when I took a hoity toity job that flew me all over the country - I realized that in California, you can’t drink just water. Sparkling or Still? They ask.
That’s when I discovered sparkling mineral water. Carbonated. I didn’t like it at first - but it grew on me.
San Pellegrino is my favorite. $1.39 per liter
Crystal Geyser from Sunflower Market is .99 for 1.25 liters.

The carbonation must come from Sodium… 35mg in a bottle of Pellegrino.. so if you have an otherwise salty diet I wouldn’t add carbonated water to it.
But if the bubbles add to your joy about water and following God’s path for you… well there you go.

For giggles… here’s a fuuny story of my drama - I mean addiction to Pellegrino! : http://singlesolitarythings.blogspot.com/2008/02/it-is-truly-fine-and-elegant-drink.html

I like VOSS. I don’t know if you can find in your town (cities have it, small towns usually don’t).

And, I don’t dring water either…maybe a glass or two a day. But sweet tea and sprite and coffee are my drinks of choice. :)

I don’t drink water either. Sweet tea runs through my veins. I tell myself that it’s mostly water anyway; a lot more than sodas, and that seems to make me feel better. Blessings to you for being obedient.

You know what? My daughter’s pediatrician told her little 3 year old self, “Sweet child, you need to drink less milk and much more water.” She did not like water. At ALL. So, what’s a girl to do?! We prayed. We asked God to give her a LOVE of water. She is almost 10 and drinks water all the time. Loves it. Will not touch soda. Restaurant will give her a soda with a kid’s meal and she will say, “Excuse me, may I have some water?” Ha!

I have a love/hate relationship with water. I feel so much better when I am drinking water versus diet drinks. I just don’t WANT water most of the time. I think of water as giving my body a shower on the inside. If I didn’t shower my body on the outside like I treat my body on the inside, I would be one stinky gal! So, here’s to water. Pray to love it … God is bigger than the bland taste of water. :)
