I don't know if there is an Ultimate Crib Sheet on the registry, but that is one of the greatest inventions EVAH. Get two. Keeps you from changing poopy or barfy sheets at 3am.

Re: showers. The most precious memory of mine was of all my girlfriends putting hands on my belly and praying for the baby, very specifically. Boo hoo city.

Also, I heard this idea which I love: make a little votive candle for each guest. Then, when they get the call that she is in labor, they light the candle, and that reminds them to pray for her until they hear that baby is here. How cool is that???

Another idea from that same shower, when each friend's prayer is said, string a bead and make it into a bracelet. Then mom wears that bracelet while she is in labor to remind her of her friend's who are lifting her and baby up to the Lord.

Bring big, comfy maternity clothes to wear home... don't worry if you look cute or not - everyone is going to be focused on that precious baby! And I would also recommend investing in some big "granny panties" that you would never really wear in real life; they are simply the most comfortable option after everything that has happened "down there." FYI, you will have lots of bleeding, like a really huge period, EVEN if you have a c-section (and it may last more than just a couple of days), so make sure to have a package of the biggest maxi pads you can find. :)

was there a rocking chair on either registry? I don't remember seeing one, but I know that my mom LOVED hers when she was up for late night feedings, or just trying to get the baby to sleep!

Shower: good food, good friends! Amen! Prayer time is wonderful. Decor: it's fun to decorate with baby clothes hung up around the house, and a good use of money! My friend also did a diaper-cake to decorate and it was soooo cute. You'll have to look online for directions, but again, roomie will be able to use both the clothes and diapers in the future.

Clothes: I heard somewhere that you should bring maternity clothes from about 4-5 months, so I did.....and the pants didn't fit, but I'm glad I didn't really believe them, and had a bigger pair with too. Thank goodness! Soft and stretchy is the best!

I've never given birth ... so the pros here will have to claim veto power to my idea...

Couldn't she bring a pretty/comfy empire waist dress ( and slip on shoes) so she can feel pretty and femine when she leaves the hospital as well as look FABULOUS!!!!?

And apparantly a pair of heavy fleece shorts underneath for it's absorbtion properties!!

1. I'm off to look at the registry right now...

2. My favorite shower was the one where I opened my gifts as they arrived (while everyone else was talking and eating). That way, I didn't feel like a whole circle of women were staring at me (and my oversized belly) as they scrutinized my every facial expression with each gift.

At one of my showers, they passed a notebook around the room so everyone could write down a word of advice/encouragement. Even if they weren't moms, they could tell me something awesome that their mom did for them. To this day, it's one of my favorite things to open and read.

3. I bought a cute "outfit" to wear home from the hospital and ended up wearing the same maternity pants that I arrived in. Honestly, she shouldn't expect to lose any weight in the days following the birth. What she loses in baby, she'll gain in water retention that comes with the surge of hormones (seriously, I couldn't wear socks because my ankles were so swollen AFTER I came out of the hospital).

Ditto on the comfy pants to wear home from the hospital. I did not wear maternity pants home, I wore some very soft yoga-type pants that I bought at Walmart. Think drawstring waist & soft stretchy fabric. Comfort is key! And maybe Roomie could bring a cute (maternity) top to make her feel pretty. : )

For the shower - AMEN on the good food.

I do like the idea of having people say blessings or prayers for Roomie & the baby, but even better than that: buy a pretty notebook & have people write their blessing or prayer in it. That way Roomie can read them over and over again.

You could also bring some diapers and Sharpie's & have people write notes on them. So when Roomie is doing YET another diaper change, she can have something to smile about (besides her beautiful baby!).
