I have noticed that Troy is rather cute.
In just a few hours, I’m picking up a particular wee child that calls me Mama Llama (if you’re fairly new to the blog, MacKenzie is a little girl I know who is being raised solely by her father so I frequently get her for mini-visits) and taking her for 24 hours of fun courtesy of two things in particular: tonight’s debut of High School Musical 3 and tomorrow’s day ‘o fun at Dollywood.
That’s right: I’m going back for Round 2. Listen, the kid loves it. Who am I to cheat her out of the happiness that is found at Dollywood? I mean, I have season passes for us so we might as well have a little bit of fun.
‘Cause there ain’t no fun like Dollywood fun!
(I’m sorry I just used the word ain’t, but it seemed appropriate.)
(Also: do you think Dollywood might want to use that slogan? I’d sell it to ‘em.)
(Or they could just give me a lifetime season pass to the park.)
(BE STILL MY HEART.)
Ahem. I have a more important question for you, however: what exactly is High School Musical? I know I should know more about it, but I’ve never actually seen the movies. I have conversations with MacKenzie about it all the time, but it’s mainly just her telling me about it. Our Starlite girls talk about it, too, but somehow I’ve missed out on the storyline. I’m going to need y’all to give me the short version in the comments so I am adequately prepared for tonight’s movie-going experience.
Of course, I may be a little distracted in the movie theater thinking about Dollywood.
It’s a sickness AND I LOVE IT.

Buy tickets WAY ahead of time. Get there WAY early if you want a decent seat.
The storyline is too long to go into. Basically a bunch of HS kids doing life together. Only 1 kiss / movie so far. No swearing. No drinking. Lots of singing / dancing.
HSM3 is revolving around their Prom. The 2 main characters are Gabriella & Troy. They’ve broken up & gotten back together in the previous movies. My guess is that’ll happen again.
You should go back & watch 1 & 2…I think you’d like them.

I shouldn’t be surprised that you haven’t seen it - unless you have a preteen girl in the house, why would you?! But I have to admit, after watching the first two (we own them) I am excited about HSM3. Almost as much as said pre-teen girl! I don’t think you’ll need to worry about missing anything by not seeing the first two - you’ll catch on pretty quickly. And my mommy heart loves that these movies are pretty clean - not even God as a a swear was used. You’ll like it!

it’s semi grease-esque. (that is an official adjective now.)
my mini synopsis after watching it with/hearing about it from all my kids (i am seriously scared to write this because i will know just how dorky i really am):
HSM1: super basketball star troy meets shy girl gabrielle on a ski-cation. in a shocking turn of events, she winds up transferring to his high school. they both decide to try out for the spring musical, upsetting the choir-theater elite, brother and sister duo Sharpay and Ryan. blah blah sing, blah blah miscommunication, blah blah mean girls, etc etc. troy and gabrielle try out, get the leads, fall in love, win the academic decathalon and the important basketball game. oh young love.
HSM2: everyone gets fun summer jobs at a resort, except sharpay and ryan who are clearly just guests at the resort, because they are rich and snotty. troy and gabriella’s relationship is on the rocks because they are so busy, cliques mix which causes more miscommunication and hurt feelings, and everyone is preparing to perform at the summer talent show, which is drama-full. in the end, everyone is fine and happy and friends again, and troy and gabriella work it out and finally have their first kiss. let’s say it together, awwwwwwwwwww.
wow.
either i am awesome for knowing what’s going on in the hearts and minds of my junior high girls (that’s a BIG stretch) or i am the biggest loser ever. either way, i hope that helps you enter the movie with some plot confidence! ![]()

amykay summed it up just about perfectly. And yes, it is cheesy to the nth degree. But the magic that is HSM means that you will somehow find that cheesy endearing and entertaining. You will find yourself jammin’ in your seat and waiting with bated breath to find out if friendship will conquer all. I loooooooove HSM. The movies, not all the merchandising that comes with it. I’ve gotten gooesbumps everytime I’ve seen the trailer for HSM3. I get to take my niece and nephew to see it next weekend and I CAN’T WAIT. No shame in my game….

I am NOT a big fan of cheesy, but HSM is one of my secret indulgences. From what I’ve seen of you on your blog, I think you’ll love it!

My grade 4 kids know ALL the words to all the songs. It is incredible. You will either love it or hate it. I watched version 1 and 2 purely to know what the kidlings were talking about. Really. Don’t judge me! Haha.

AB, I’m not going to summarize the plot because I think the others have done a fabulous job. I will say that I’m going tonight, so if you wanna meet up (you and Lil’ Bit), I’ll be happy to answer questions in the theater. I may dance a bit… just to warn you! I’ve seen 1 & 2, and have been excited about this one since last year when they announced a third!!!!!

I saw the first one, and I really liked it. What’s more fun than dancing and singing without the trash of grown up musicals?

I have a four year old and two year old and my intent is to have nothing to do with any installment until I absolutely must do so. Like when they’re 8 and 6 I’m guessing.
Now don’t knock Roomie over in your haste to get to the TV, but if you tune in the Disney channel at 22 minutes or 52 minutes past the hour the “30 minute” program will be over and you can watch either a Hannah Montana video, a Sleeping Beauty promo OR a HSM music video complete with fully choreographed dance numbers performed by the basketball team. If you thought West Side Story was a little on the cheesmo side with the choreographed “rumble” between the Jets and the Crips or whoever they were, HSM might not be for you!

Clean movie, so major props there.
#1 Boy meets sweet, smart girl and decides to audition for a musical with her (thus highschool musical). Jealous rich girl tries to get boy and foil musical plans. Drama. Drama. Sweet, smart girl gets boy and both get part in musical.
#2 Summertime. Boy and sweet girl are working at a country club. Club has talent show. Boy, sweet girl and friends sign up for show. Jealous rich girl again tries to get boy and attempts foil talent show plans. (Hmm… second verse same as the first verse?). Drama. Drama. Sweet girl hangs on to boy - and they win talent show.
Gee, wonder what this movie’s plot will be?

AB….Went to see HSM3 tonight…LOVED it. Cheeseball, but sweet. I spend all day with 27 fourth graders, so HSM lingo is my life. Also…. coincidentally, I’m heading to Dollywood tomorrow to. Email me and maybe we can meet up. ![]()

Ha ha… Christine! At first I read “Jets and Crisps” which had me on the floor - then I realized you wrote Crips as in Crypts. As in Bloods vs ____
I had to think about it… but it’s the Jets and the Sharks.
“When you’re a Jet - you’re a Jet all the way - From your first cigarette - to your last dying day”
Sing it with me girls!!
