You’re going to miss this.

December10

The season ‘o final exams has hit over the past few days and my college girls seem to be taking the blows rather gallantly. One of them, who shall remain nameless, stopped by the office to get me to sign a form for her early one morning recently. She was in a delicate combination of sweatpants with an accompanying sweatshirt (all the rage!) and she had the look of a girl who hadn’t slept in days.

“Um, Girl Who Shall Remain Nameless, are you doing okay?”

“Yeah.”

“Getting enough sleep?”

“Uh huh.”

“So, how are finals going?”

{Blank stare.}

When she left my office a few minutes later, it was everything I could do to not call out “You’re going to miss this one day!” as she walked out the door. I didn’t say it, of course, but only because? Girls who are only surviving on caffeinated beverages and Ramen Noodles? Well, you don’t talk smack to ‘em. You just don’t.

The truth is that she probably will miss this someday, even if she won’t believe me now.

She’ll miss the relief of laying that final exam on the teacher’s desk and walking out of that classroom, cell phone in hand to call her mama to tell her that she’s done with her Earth and Space Science class forever.

She’ll wish she could go back to that day she wore her fuzzy slippers to the 7:45 a.m. English exam without even caring what that boy sitting behind her will think.

She’ll think back to throwing those bags of laundry in the backseat of her car and miss knowing that it was okay that she was out of quarters from her daddy’s stash, ’cause doing her laundry at home don’t cost a thing.

And just how do I know this, my girls are asking themselves as they read this.

Just trust me, girls. You’re going to miss this.

I graduated 3 years ago… something about “finals time” that makes me miss college. Probably all those 3 AM trips to Wal-Mart to escape studying for just a little bit. Oh the days! :)

Amen! It’s the last time you get to home and have your momma and daddy love up on you like a little kid. Once it’s over, you kinda miss it. A lot!

I may be the acception. I don’t miss it a bit. Guess that’s what happens when your kids’ education & experiences become more important than your own.

I graduated from college probably when these girls were in elementary school–but OH HOW I MISS IT!! I said that if I could have have a degree called “college” I would have done it because I loved it so, so, much. I guess that’s why I work in higher education. : )

    Good times!!!

My favorite holiday in college was Dead Day. It was a weekday right before finals when no classes met. Of course, it was intended to give hardworking college students extra time to study…I can’t remember a single Dead Day spent actually preparing for finals.

also on the list of things they will miss: being able to choose to NOT fulfill any of your responsibilities on any given day, with basically no consequences. ahhhh, sweet college!

There is nothing like those 4 (or more) years of college! I absolutely loved it. Though life is great now too, college was really something special.

I quickly realized when I reached the working world that though I dreaded those tests, they came in quite handy…because it meant it was time for something to stop and something new to start.

Even though I still refer to the year in semesters, I often feel like I’m a little hamster running on the wheel and never seeing any progress.

Enjoy those college days, sweet friends….they will be over long before you want them to be!

YES YOU WILL!!!!! College is the best time and although I love being an adult and in the “real world”, college remains one of the sweetest windows of time in my life. It’s unlike any other.
