“It was a cool summer ’til I got bit by that water snake!”

January16

I woke up to two unfortunate realizations this morning:

1. Yesterday’s two-hour trip to the gym was, perhaps, a bit too much, too soon.  To put it succinctly, I feel as if a small otter gnawed at my arm and leg muscles during the night.  It is quite the unpleasant sensation.

and

2. The current temperature in our little part of the world is cold enough to convince local school officials that both our city and county schools should be closed today.  I have no idea how cold it actually is outside since I am currently writing this from underneath my electric blanket (don’t make fun!), but I am wondering if any of my college girls would think it odd for me to take my blanket to the office with me and plug it in under my desk.

I have been saving the following little gem for a day in which we might all need a little pick-me-up courtesy of Cousin Cate.  Oh yes, she’s back AND SHE IS BETTER THAN EVER.

The video opens with Cousin Cate investigating a suspicious rock we found whilst taking a walk beside the Ocoee River one recent weekend.  Pay attention, however, around 1:30 in the video when Cousin Cate begins describing her favorite summer job (hint: the word “hellbender” is mentioned multiple times).  Trust me, you will have a whole new level of respect for our sweet Cousin Cate when you hear what she did for $800.00.

Happy Friday.

You and Cousin Cate are both hilarious. It would be a hoot to hang out with y’all.

Stay warm under that electric blanket!

There are no words. And that little grin at the end cracks me up.
And I’d totally take that electric blanket to work. We have big plans to stay in our pj’s all day. Ah, the joys of homeschooling.

oh man I feel exactly the same way- like a small creature is chewing on my abs . . . Body Core about killed me yesterday (and it’s worse today!) The worst part? The instructor was pregnant and there was a 70 year old woman in front of me totally keeping up better than i was!!

My dear friends from Michigan (who now reside in Durham, NC) are SERIOUSLY MOCKING all of us Southerners right now. I do think it is kind of ridiculous that we close schools for cold weather…is that normal for TN? I’m still new here, you know :)

And Cate? I agree, it ain’t worth no $800 if watersnakes are involved.

Leslie Ruth: Yes, it is normal. Schools close even if there is one snowflake in the air. No joking.

AB & Cousin Cate: That is hilarious!!!! I used to catch salamanders too! I think they are very neat looking. You know me – Nature girl!!!

Would it be bad if I started saying “What the hellbender”?

This video was fantastic, but the part that got me even more than the being bit by the snake portion was how, early in, when asking you to turn to the river, she managed to take your obviously two-syllable name (since it is made up by two names) and turn it into one. Incredible!!
