Dear Katie,

In eight hours, you will adjust your veil one last time, clutch your daddy’s arm and begin walking towards the future that is waiting for you at that altar.

Because today is your wedding day.

You will walk slowly towards him, taking one step at a time, the train of your dress quietly following your path.

He will take your hand and you will walk those last few steps to the altar where the pastor will begin speaking.  You’ll be hoping he’ll hurry up and get to the part where you’re pronounced husband and wife; Eric will be hoping he’ll hurry up and get to the part where he gets permission to kiss his bride.

Because today is your wedding day.

There will be dinner and toasts and dancing for hours before the limousine pulls up to take you away.  We’ll line the pathway, the only light coming from the sparklers in our hands as you race through it.  We’ll watch you slip into the backseat, we’ll wave as you leave, each of us somehow hoping that you see our wave to you, that it’s our face you’re looking at as you drive away. And then, right as the car pulls out of the driveway, I’ll cry just a bit.

Because today is your wedding day, my love.  And you’re going to be one beautiful bride.
