Whoa.

I came home from vacation to find that the air conditioning in my house was out therefore allowing me to sleep in 86 degrees all night which is perfect, you know, considering I’m only 12 days away for leaving for a country where the average temperature is 110 degrees a day.

Speaking of those 12 days left, I AM FLIPPING OUT. I had to get my final immunization this morning which was lovely seeing as there’s no way I’d rather start my Monday morning off than by having a dose of Typhoid sent into my veins while the nurse says “Now, this may make you feel a little bit sick for the next few days.”

Fantastic.

Anyway, I really am flipping out about the trip. Like, really, really flipping out. Like, calling Cousin Cate this morning and saying “DO YOU THINK IT’S WEIRD THAT I FEEL PANIC EVERY SINGLE TIME I THINK ABOUT THE TRIP?”

And actually, just writing that is kinda making me flip out. I think I’m going to go do something relaxing now, like writing out my living will so I can get my power of attorney form finished.

Yeah, no reason to flip out. No reason at all.

it’s normall to feel the freak out. i feel the same freak out feeling almost every time i travell oversees, especially to a place i’ve never been before. what really helped me is having a friend tell me “it’s ok” he actually said that there would be something wrong if i wasn’t slightly freaked, i was headed to a new place with a lot of new responsibilities; but of course, i would be fine. and your are going to be fine too- you and cousin cate are going to have so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!! man- i wish i was going :)

Too funny. You are going to have the time of your life! (And PS: in central Texas we have triple digit temperature predicted all week. Every year at this time I ask myself WHY I live in Texas in the summer???)

I freak out if I’m leaving the state, much less the country! But I find that once I’m pulling out of my driveway, the fun can begin. I think the preparations are stressful, but once I’m on my way, I can be pretty philosophical – if I forgot something, I just forgot it – I’ll do without it or get it when I get where I’m going! So prepare as best you can, then – when you and Cate are on the way, do as we do in Louisiana – LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!

What is the source of the freaking out? Your destination? Feelings of being unprepared? The uncertainty of not knowing what to expect? All of the above?

No, this isn’t a multiple choice test. Just trying to figure out what’s wigging you out. LOL

I have total faith in you AB! If my daughter can fly to Africa on her own at age 18 and spend a month traveling around, I think you can do it at your slightly more mature age. In fact, if you’d like to chat with her about some things you can expect (in general, since she was in a different country but we’ve heard many experiences are very, very similar), you can find her at

It’s too bad she can’t go along with you ’cause y’all would have a really good time. She’d have you dyeing your hair in the shower stalls at Heathrow during your layover, maybe riding the train into London to get some really cool sunglasses. And she’d know what’s okay to eat and what to stay far, far away from.

Love, love, love to travel and am trying to be Christian about this and not covet my neighbors lovely travel plans but it’s HARD. I wanna go too! LOL

Seriously, best advice is to find someone who’s been real recently and just get the skinny on things from them. Or contact a missionary who’s there and can give you some travel tips.

I’m real excited for you and Cate! Yay for traveling all around the world. :-)

For some reason, it didn’t let me leave her blog site. I’m going to try again:

Do you have any idea how far back I searched to figure out where you are going?

Do you have any idea how STINKIN’ JEALOUS I am? You have me breaking all kinds of commandments at 1:30 a.m.. lol

Seriously, I hope you have the most fantastic time. You deserve it :)

Normal to flip out? Yes! Why? Because you’re excited!!

If you don’t take a goofy photo next to the sphynx (sp?) or a pryamid or something I’ll be really disappointed. : )
