Let’s see how many times I can write “side ponytail” this summer.
A list of why I can’t find time to write a real blog post today:
1. I have a job offer that I think is going to be IT!!! Waiting on a bit more info before I can make the final decision, but I’m feeling good about it.
2. Think I found a place to live if I take this job!!! Waiting to hear back from the landlord. I really, really want it to work out mainly because it has the most ADORABLE bathroom sink I’ve ever seen and y’all KNOW how important a cute bathroom sink is!
Have you ever seen something more perfect for your girl ABB? No, I didn’t think so.
3. Ten days away from leaving for Eg*pt and haven’t found any proper shoes. Suggestions?
4. My AC is still out at my current house. It’s 92 degrees in it at this very moment. And my rental company’s reply when I called a few minutes ago? “We’ll get to it when we get to it.” Which I, of course, replied with “Oh, no problem, take your time.”
EXCEPT I DIDN’T SAY THAT BECAUSE, HELLO, IT IS HOT IN HERE.
5. I’m wearing a side ponytail today. No real point in telling you that other than to inform you that I have hearby declared this THE SUMMER OF THE SIDE PONYTAIL because there is nothing cuter, you know.
That is all.

Comfortable shoes! Anything comfortable. Tennis shoes do get very hot though! My team here LOVES comfortable sandles and flip flops!
I don’t know what type of shoe you are looking for or if you need to be more covered but FitFlops are amazing for travel. You can get them online and in stores. http://www.fitflop.com/ I travel a lot and have worn mine in Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, and all over the US in the last year. They are super comfortable because they are so thick. Sometimes my feet get sore after a long day of sightseeing in thin sandals. They don’t really give your butt any definition like they claim but they are VERY COMFORTABLE. I am dying for a pair of the sequined fitflops!!!!
First of all, that sink is SO PERFECT! I love those above-counter-bowl-sinks.
I have a pair of gladiator sandals from Target that my mom calls my “Egyptian shoes”…and they are surprisingly comfortable! Here you go: http://www.target.com/Mossimo-Pauline-Gladiator-Sandals-Black/dp/B001EJBOEW/sr=1-2/qid=1245864975/ref=sr_1_2/183-7480699-0601902?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&rh=k%3Agladiator&page=1
Side ponytails are awesome.
I’m so pumped for #1 and #2! I can’t wait for more details! Praying that everything falls into place. What a praise if it all falls into place before you make the big trip!
I especially love that sink…just one more little bit of proof to show us the GOD IS IN THE DETAILS!
you made me laugh. at least twice, maybe three times. love ya!
go with comfortable shoes…there’s no need to impress when traveling overseas!
so i realize that i don’t know you at all…but a friend of mine showed me your blog and i’m pretty sure that if we knew each other we’d be friends!
anyway…i just got back from Rwanda where I spent a month and I’ve got to say, Keens are great shoes for travel! they’re kind of like tennis shoes and sandals combined, they’re comfortable, they dry easy…all around…great shoes! so check them out!
hope you have fun in egypt! i’m jealous! thats a part of africa i’ve never gotten to visit!
Sadly, I have no real footwear suggestions. My foot size really limits my ability to have shoe conversations with others. Bummer. The youth I work with tell me Chacos are GREAT. But, I don’t know if a sandal will be appropriate for what you are doing.
Frankly, the pink flowers in the bathroom make it scream “Amy Beth needs to live here!” to me.
AB, you are my favorite.
That is all.
Is that sink for real? It is the most adorable thing I have ever seen!!!
I am soooo excited about your potential IT job!
Clark Sandals…the sunbeat style is my favorite. I wore them in Israel and loved them. http://www.zappos.com/product/7403011/color/1838 Love the ‘mushroom’ color as it’s versatile enough for any outfit.
That’s my 2 cents worth.
Yes love those sinks! Good luck with the job, I’m interested to know how it all works out. Also Tevas are usually good with any terrane.
Not always the cutest but comfy.
i need to get into rockin’ that side ponytail! i keep forgetting! my hair is ALWAYS back- especially in the nice hot humid weather.
careful on the shoe choice- i’d opt for sneakers because hello… nothing is worse than new shoe blisters and i imagine you’ll be doing lots of walking! and considering how covered up you’ll be i don’t think the shoes need to be super cute! LOL
XOXOXO
PS that sink is SO cute!
*rolling up my sleeves* Let me at those rental people. I don’t know about Tennessee, but here in California, it is against the law for them to take too long to fix things like AC and toilets!
Here is an excerpt from…http://articles.directorym.com/Tenants_Rights_to_Privacy_and_Repairs_Tennessee-r935150-Tennessee.html
“If a landlord doesn’t make required repairs, what are the consequences?
If a tenant requests repairs and the landlord or property manager doesn’t meet the habitability requirements, a tenant usually has several options, depending on the state. These options include:
making the necessary repairs and deducting the costs from the next month’s rent
withholding the entire rent until the problem is fixed
paying less rent while the rental remains substandard
calling the local building inspector, who can usually order the landlord to make repairs, or
moving out without responsibility for future rent, even in the middle of a lease.
A tenant can also sue the landlord for a partial refund of past rent, and in some circumstances can sue for the discomfort, annoyance, and emotional distress caused by the substandard conditions.
Your best bet is to handle repairs as soon as possible (or delegate the repairs to the tenant in exchange for decreased rent). Take care of major problems, such as a plumbing or heating problem, within 24 hours. For minor problems, respond in 48 hours. Always keep tenants informed as to when and how the repairs will be made, and the reasons for any delays.”
If you need an enforcer, let me know! I’ll bring my boxer babes with me. We’ll take ‘em!
1. Woo Hooooo!
2. Hello gorgeous! We might need more pics if you decide to live here…
3. I assume stilettos are out?
4. (please read the following line in a “Godfather’ type accent) Ahhh… AB… I thinks it would be “beneficial” for my people to pay a friendly visit to that rental agency on your behalf…
5. I’m sure no one has looked cuter since Stephanie Tanner.
… seriously though, coming from a “landlord,” you should make your request in writing, listing the times and dates of when the A/C went out and when you made your phone calls to the management company. If that doesn’t work, email me.
Hello AmyBeth,
Just chiming in to say I love your blog! I hope the job offer and apartment work out for you! The bathroom sink is adorable! I would reccommend Chacco’s or Keen’s for your trip. Both are great shoes and I have them and love them both. Waterproof, durable, can hike in them, wear around down whatever. They both come in different styles and colors to suit your taste! I had a good friend who went to Africa last fall and she bought a pair of Chacco’s as her shoes for her trip and loved them. Good luck and have fun!
Stacy
That sink?
Too stinkin’ cute.
And Whoo hoooo on your job offer.
That’s fantastic!
i’m a seasoned traveller so really the question to ask yourself is – how much walking will i be doing?
this is key to which shoes you buy. my advice is to never skimp on good comfortable walking shoes, they make or break your treks to the pyramids etc. they determine how much you get to see of the country and whether you cry at the end of the day with sore feet.
go to a hiking/backpackers store and find shoes. they sell cute woman’s ones in a sandal make or even mary-jane styles that are for backpackers. they are expensive but so so comfortable and worth. i could give you the name of some good stores in Australia but that’s not really going to help.
chacos.
That rental company is making me mad for you. You seem so much calmer than what I am, and it’s not even happening to me. Seriously, they are so wrong, it’s a crime! What if you were some home-bound person who died in that heat–they should be held liable! But, I’m totally glad you aren’t a home-bound person on the verge of death. So, on that note, congratulations! The bathroom is totally awesome and I hope the job will be too. I have no shoe suggestions–I wear flipflops whenever possible but it sounds like the girls above gave great suggestions.
a good shoe investment is worth the money! i bought some very comfy Merrells pre-Eccie and they have been amazing…though probably not your best bet for the summer sun in a much hotter part of planet earth. i vote for the duo-choice: a pair of comfy shoes that fully cover your feet and a good pair of comfy, quality flip-flops (my flip flops are currently being held together by a piece of string. i’m so third-world!). both lightweight, waterproof, durable, and can handle the heat. wish i was there to convince you to buy birkenstocks (honestly a terrible choice for your upcoming journey, but a life staple in my opinion). too hippie-esque for our ABB? betcha they have pink polka dot ones!
I cannot wait to hear about the job, but AWESOME sink. Praying for your AC to come back quickly…. good luck with the shoes…comfortable is always top priority. At least in today’s day and age you can get comfortable and stylish together.
For shoes.. I spent most of my time in Egypt in sneakers (light, breathable ones) but make sure you WATERPROOF them….not because it rains but because some bathrooms are totally ick with very *ahem* wet floors.
You definitely don’t want any shoes where your feet will be at all exposed because they will be more dirty than you can ever imagine and grimy also….ewwww!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take some little packages of tissues….not everywhere will have toilet paper!
Ok, I’m with Kim. I actually worked for a property management company in Memphis and I can tell you that it is against the law for them not to fix the AC in Tennessee summer heat within 24 hours of the initial report. The only exception is when a city has a general electricity outage, then those with babies and the elderly get priority. You should fax or email them something in writing (for proof later, if necessary), then call to make sure they received it…it should say that if someone does not come in the next 24 hours, that you will be ordering the repair yourself and either sending them the bill or withholding rent until you have paid yourself back. If they fuss, tell them to check the Tennessee Uniform Residential Landlord Tenant Act. And it doesn’t matter if your lease states something different; they can’t negate anything in this Act, no matter how legal the lease is. I’ll email you the section you might need. Good luck!
Sorry, no shoe help. I’m a tennis shoe girl with the occasional Merrell slide.
Yay! Will be praying that everything falls into place
As someone who just had to buy a new A/C unit, might I suggest getting some of those lunch pack ice coolers (the ones you stick in your lunchbox to keep everything chilly?), and try wearing them on your head. That’s what I resorted two when it took three weeks to fix ours. YOWZA!
