London girl.

Well, I’m writing this from a lovely terminal in a London airport with Cate lying asleep on the seats to my left whilst we wait for our our flight to Ca*ro.  It’s early afternoon here, but it feels like early morning to our bodies.  I’m so tired I can barely think straight, so forgive me if I’m a bit “off.”  I actually just wrote an entire post for you, but then I deleted it because it really didn’t make sense.  I’m going on about 2 hours of sleep right now and it’s a bit hard to form a coherent thought right now.

Cate and I were seated together for the flight because two people from our group of 23 had to be separated from the group, so we volunteered.  That sentence isn’t worded well, is it?  Oh well.  Can’t figure out to say it better right now.  Have I mentioned I’m about to kick Cate off the chairs beside me and steal her sleeping spot as soon as I finish this?

Cate and I have never flown together so a long international flight really baptized us by fire.  We were basically ready for bed the moment we got in our seats.  Cate had brought neck pillows for both of us and we struggled to blow them up for a good three minutes straight before we realized you have to poke a hole in the plastic mouthpiece before blowing.   We were red in the face from blowing our little lungs out with no pillow to show for it.  So embarrassing.

As we started to take off, Cate offered me a Tylenol PM to help me sleep.  I didn’t have anything to drink yet, but I was so desperate to fall asleep as quickly as possible that I decided I could swallow a pill without water.  I’ll spare you the gory details, but let’s just say that I had that pill in my mouth for about 30 seconds before I started asking Cate if she could loan me a bit of her saliva.  It sounds disgusting now, but you know what they say about desperate times calling for desperate measures.

After we put on our socks, snuggled up with our blankets and pillows, it was time for bed.  I got distracted by a showing of Hannah Montana: The Movie which I tried (unsuccessfully I might add) to get Cate to watch alongside me.  I didn’t get to see the ending of it though, so don’t tell me what happens, okay?  You know that Hannah Montana — always leaving us in suspense!

I’ve told y’all before that I tend to cuddle in my sleep with whichever (unlucky) person is nearest and, unfortunately, Cate had to experience that throughout the night.  I would fall asleep for a few minutes only to wake up laying basically across her seat, with my arms thrown behind my head.  Awkward.

We couldn’t sleep much, so we spent time talking about which male flight attendant had the best British accent.  Oh, and we also recited lines from the Kittens Inspired by Kittens video that we have memorized in it’s entirety.  What’s weird is that we can just see something, give each other a look and immediately recite our favorite lines from the video.  I’m sure all the other passengers next to us were thrilled at their seat assignments.  There’s nothing like two American girls in their twenties reciting lines from a YouTube video about kittens at 4 a.m.

Speaking of Cate, she just woke up and said something that I still can’t figure out, rolled over and is now back asleep.  Girl doesn’t know it but her little naptime is just about over.  ABB is moving in for the seats and she can go on baggage-watching duty for a bit.

On second thought, I’ll just sleep on the plane.  I want to use every moment in my favorite London airport to practice my British accent on anyone who’ll halfway believe it.  I do believe I’ll have a spot of tea with a dollop of crumpets on the side.

(I don’t think crumpets come in dollops, but just go with it.)

(What do you think the likelihood would be of Prince William showing up here to ask me on a date?)

(Also: tomorrow I ride camels, I think.  Send help now.)

Could you bring me back a British boy? Preferably a tan one with cute eyes and dimples. It’s hard to find one here in TN–thanks. Also have fun in your adventures! I miss you and Cate!

Sleep deprivation on long trips can do weird things to you. When my daughter went to Africa and had a long layover in London, she and her friend took the tube into town to do a little sight-seeing. Saw her favorite store, bought hair dye, went back to Heathrow and turned up in Uganda with red hair. LOL

I love that you’re still able to entertain even though you’re suffering the effects of traveling internationally!
