It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Shall we begin with the worst?

(Note from AB: I edited this post at a later date because I felt like it needed to be; no one complained or was offended or anything of that nature — I just felt like it should be changed.)

My gift to my mother was a bit on the modest side.

I apologize for the picture being blurry, but I took it after she had finished opening all her gifts and my hands were still a little shaky, to say the least.

On a far happier note, as you know by now, I got to watch a child make his way into the world!  When I arrived at the hospital, Ashley was just starting to realize that the epidural she had been given wasn’t working for some reason.  The next hour or so was a bit tense as they worked on trying to get a second one for her; meanwhile I did my part to try to take her mind off the pain by frequently commenting on how good her hair looked whilst in labor.

The doctor came in to check her and within seconds told her to begin pushing.  I was going to leave but all of the sudden the baby started coming and I was helping her husband hold her leg up and before I could even make my way to the door, I saw the baby’s head coming and it was too late to back out then.   So I stood there, holding the leg of my longest lasting best friend as I watched her baby be born with tears rolling down my cheeks because I’ve never seen something so beautiful.

And then, with the tears still coming, I picked up my camera and began attempting to capture one of the best moment’s of her life.

It was the best of times, indeed.

Well, except for the lingerie shower. What can I say? You win some, you lose some.
